Synonyms: coriandi seeds, dhania, coriander seed, Chinese parsley

About Coriander: Coriander is a herb from Apiceae family of plants and grows upto 50 cms or 20 inches in height. The leaves of coriander plant are of different shape and sizes and it bears flowers which are of pale pink of white in colour. The seeds of this plant are referred to as coriander. These coriander seeds are quite small of size  3 to 5 mm in diameter. The leaves of this plant are referred to as ‘cilantro’ and used along with coriander seeds in cooking.

History of Coriander: Coriander is an ancient herb and has important place in aromatherapy. This plant is known to be native of Morocco region. There is also mention of coriander in the Bible.  Coriander leaves are also known to be cultivated in Greece in around 200 BC which were primarily used for two different applications. The seeds were used by the ancient Greeks as spice and the coriander leaves were used as a flavouring herb. There are also been many archaeological evidences pointing out to cultivation of coriander in early Bronze Age.

Properties of Coriander Oil: The major chemical constituents of Coriander oil include: borneol, cymene, cineole, linalool, terpineol, dipentene, phellandrene, pinene, terpinolene, etc.
