About Lavender: Lavender plant is a shrub which grows up to 3 feet in height and bears beautiful purple colour flowers. These shrubs grow wildly in Mediterranean region but also mostly cultivated in France. Kashmir Lavender which grows in foothills of Himalayas is also a very famous variety of Lavender. Close to 39 species of Lavender are known to us today. But essential oil derived from ‘lavandula angustifolia’ and ‘Lavandula latifolia’ are considered to be of more use and have many therapeutic properties.

History of Lavender: Lavender has always attracted many to itself. Firstly because of its beautiful looking flowers and then secondly because of its lovely aroma. It was first the Egyptians in the ancient history which began using of Lavender in different formulation of cosmetic products of that era. Continuing on with the experience of Egyptians the Greeks discovered various therapeutic properties of Lavender and started using it on their feet so that its smell can move up to their other parts of body. Properties of Lavender Oil: Lavender essential Oil is obtained from steam distillation of lavender flower tops. Average yield of lavender oil is about 1.4% to 1.6%. The major chemical constituent of Lavender essential oil include: alpha Pinene, limonene, 1,8 cineole, cis-ocimene, trans-ocimene, 3 octanone, camphor, linalool, linayl acetate, etc.
