Synonyms:  Macadamia nut oil

About Macadamia: Macadamia is a flowering plant which has been native to Australia (Eastern part of Australia) and Indonesia (Sulawesi). This evergreen Tree can grow to a height measuring from 2 meters to 12 meters. Its leaves are elliptical in shape and range between 6 to 30 cms. in length. Macadamia tree bears flowers which are pink or purple in colour and fruits which are hard and woody containing one or at time two seeds. It would take anything between 7 to 10 years for a cultivated macadamia tree to produce the quality of nuts which would have commercial value.  The average life of this tree is about 100 years.  

History of Macadamia: It all started with Eastern Australia where for the first time this plant was known to be grown in the wild. It was in the 1857 scientific name of macadamia integrifolia was given to this plant which was popular by the name of Macadamia. Hawaii was one region where plantation of Macadami was promoted due to its geographical similarities of eastern Australian region. Around middle of twentieth century ‘Royal Hawaiian’ brand of macadamia nuts came into existence which popularized use these nuts in the American continent. Australia still remains the largest producer and supplier of these nuts world over and is closely followed by Hawaii region.

Properties of Macadamia Oil: Macadamia essential oil primarily consists of various fatty acids. The major constituents of this oil include: Myristic Acid, Palmitoleic Acid, Oleic Acid (around 55 to 62%), Palmitic acid, Stearic acid, Linoleic acid, Arachidic, eicosenoic, Vitamin, B, B6, C, E, iron calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, etc.
