About Lemongrass: Lemongrass is a kind of a perennial grass which has been native to Asian region and popularly used in cooking. This herb grows up to 3 feet in height and has thin and long green coloured leaves. Today more than 55 species of this grass are known to us. Lemongrass has a hint of ginger plus a more dominant lemony flavour in it. It is also known for its therapeutic properties and value attached to it. Thai and Vietnamese cuisine make most use of lemongrass. Because of it usage many people also grow this herb in pots in their house.

History of Lemongrass: Lemongrass is known to of widely grown in regions of Philippines, India and China in Asia and soon lot of value was attached to this herb because of it therapeutic properties. Commercial cultivation of this crop began and lot of price was associated with this crop. In many different tradition medicines lemongrass has been integral part of many recopies. Properties of Lemongrass Oil: Lemongrass oil is obtained through steam distillation of fresh and partly dried lemongrass leaves. This essential oil has a sweet smell and is dark yellow to reddish in colour. The major chemical constituents of Lemongrass Oil include: myrcene, gernyl acetate, neral, limonene, citral, citronella, geraniol, etc.
